COURSE OVERVIEW

    • GSMBC Level 1 Coaches or PMBIA Level 1 Instructors interested in technical skills and tricks to help riders progress to the next level!

    • Coaches who want to develop their own skills with tricks like basic bunnyhops, endos, nose pivots, small wheelies, manuals and more!

    • Coaches who wish to build confidence riding and coaching in technical terrain, beyond the Level 1.

    • Coaches excited to continue learning and gain an industry leading certification.

    • Coaches looking for a stepping stone between the GSMBC Level 1 and 2 Certifications.

  • This is a fun, progressive 2-day professional development course to improve your own riding skills, while learning the essential elements to delivering safe, effective ‘intro to’ technical trick progressions for students.

    This programs includes an online workshop and two days of training from the industry’s top coach mentors, practice coaching and video analysis feedback.

    • 2 days plus 1-2hrs of pre-course reading materials and online workshop.

    • Totalling approximately 18hrs

    • Assessments include:

      • Online Workshop

      • Skills Coaching Assessment

      • Riding Skills Assessment

    • Coaches can choose to opt-out of the riding and coaching assessments if they wish to purely learn and develop during the course. However, they will still be expected to practice teach as part of normal coach education and development.

    • GSMBC Level 1 Certification (or equivalent) is required. PMBIA & BICP Certified? Get your free crossover certs here

    • 2+seasons of coaching experience recommended, but not mandatory

    • Comfortable riding at speed on technically challenging intermediate to advanced terrain, including green, blue, and black trails

    • 40hr Wilderness First Aid (or equivalent) is recommended, but not required

    • Minimum age requirement of 17. Coaching intermediate to advance riders involves greater inherent risks, requiring higher levels of skill and accountability from coaches who bear legal responsibility for their students.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺

    • BIKE: We recommend a modern, well maintained trail or enduro bike with 5 - 6 inches (125-150mm) of front and rear suspension with good quality disc brakes and tires, is ideal for this course. It doesn’t need to be the latest and greatest, just well maintained and appropriate for technical riding.

    • A good quality, well fitted mountain bike helmet.

    • Gloves and knee pads are recommend.

    • Food, water, tools, spare tube and clothing to suit the conditions that day… we ride rain or shine!

    • First aid kit not essential, but recommended.

  • Every GSMBC course aims to finish between 4 - 4.30pm, depending on the conditions that day and the specific course location.

    Coaches are required to attend the course in full to be eligible for GSMBC Coach Certifications.

  • We encourage coaches of all ages and backgrounds to attend this program. However, the minimum participant age is 17 years old.

  • Yes! Your GSMBC Mentor will work with you to develop your bike set up and technical riding skills.

  • Coaches should feel comfortable with the fundemental wheel lifts such as front and rear wheel lifts, level lifts and pedalling wheel lifts before signing up. Ideally you should also feel comfortable and have already tried some of the more technical maneuvers, but by no means do they need to be dialled.

    This will set you up for success so you can get the most from the training and experience on this course.

  • This course is designed purely for professional development, offering opportunities to learn, grow, and enhance both your riding and coaching skills with a focus on building confidence.

    While you’ll have opportunities to practice teaching as part of the training, these sessions are for development only and will not be formally assessed. You will receive valuable feedback to help refine your riding and coaching techniques.

  • This course is designed for coaches who are comfortable riding at trail speed on blue and black technical terrain, including roots, rocks, tight switchbacks, and technical climbs.

    To get the most out of this training, participants should have experience practicing at least two of the following maneuvers:

    • Basic Wheelies or Manuals (2–3 bike lengths)

    • Endos or Bunnyhops (15–30 cm high)

    • Nose Pivots (approximately 45° in one or both directions)

    This foundation will help you maximize your learning and progression throughout the course.
